• Start off strong!!  Keep in mind that your grades from freshman year forward affect your overall high school GPA. The higher the G.P.A., the better!  More colleges will accept you and increase your eligibility for Financial Aid.

     

  • As you schedule your courses throughout your high school years, remember to challenge yourself.

     

  • Know the A-G requirements?  A-G refers to the high school courses required for admission to the University of California, the California State University system, and private universities.  See a counselor for a list of the A-G requirements or click here.

     

  • Avoid “D” grades.  If you receive a “D” grade in any A-G class, you will not be eligible for admissions to the university.

     

  • Develop and maintain good study habits. This will be vital throughout high school and college.

     

  • Get to know your teachers and administrators.  Making connections early will help you throughout your high school career.

     

  • Get to know your guidance counselor.  Meet to discuss your career and college goals, and to design a four-year high school plan to reach your goals.

     

  • Familiarize yourself with the high school curriculum and keep up with your four-year plan.

     

  • Think about what extracurricular activities you’re genuinely interested in and to which you are willing to commit the time.

     

  • Find out about the summer activities, jobs, or volunteer opportunities that will expand your experience and skills.

     

  • Take advantage of every opportunity to participate in enrichment activities.

     

  • Enter essay, speech contests, science fairs/contests for scholarships and awards.

     

  • Volunteer in your community

     

  • Think about several career possibilities and learn how much education is required for each job.  Explore careers and job opportunities in those careers.

     

  • Create a folder/document in your google drive that you can update with all of your activities/sports/grades/etc.
  • Begin or update your Academic Planner at cal state apply.  The planner has information on courses and grades required for CSU admission.
